The Best Spots for Engagement & Surprise Proposal Photoshoots at Lake Kawaguchiko, Mount Fuji

Embarking on the journey of love in the enchanting landscapes of Japan is a dream come true for many couples, and Lake Kawaguchiko, with the majestic Mount Fuji as its backdrop, provides the perfect canvas for unforgettable engagement and surprise proposal photoshoots. At Sofia Hiramatsu Photography, we have been photographing couples at these iconic locations for years, and know the best places to capture the best surprise proposal - so let’s go through them.

Oishi Park

Nestled on the northern shore, Oishi Park offers a floral paradise that enhances the romance of any engagement photoshoot. The vibrant blooms provide a beautiful colourful backdrop. With Mount Fuji overseeing the scene, the park becomes a poetic setting for capturing the promise of forever, and our favourite spot out of all. Because of how beautiful this park is, it can get extremely busy, especially on the weekends, so we highly recommend not to shoot then. The best time to have a comfortable and relaxed photoshoot at this park is at sunrise, between Monday - Friday. Because public transport isn’t available around the time we would be shooting, we do offer packages where we can pick you up, and drop you off at your accomodation. Alternatively, we recommend renting a car, as previously we have had clients who struggled to book a taxi around sunrise.

Nagasaki Park

Embraced by the beauty of Nagasaki Park, engagement photos become timeless expressions of love amidst well-manicured greenery. The park's serene ambiance creates an intimate setting, allowing couples to focus on the essence of their connection while Mount Fuji adds a sense of quiet majesty to the background. About a 5 minute drive from Oishi Park, we’ve found that it definetely doesn’t get as crowded. It’s a lot smaller, with no flowers, but plenty of tall golden grass, if you like the look of that in your photos. We’ve noticed that it can get a little bit more busier on the weekends, but no where as near as Oishi Park can. So we would recommend shooting here at either sunrise or sunset, Monday - Friday.

Tenku no Torii

The captivating Tenku no Torii, or the "Gate in the Sky," adds a touch of cultural romance to engagement photos. The torii gate, framed against Mount Fuji, becomes a symbolic entrance to a shared future. This location intertwines tradition with natural beauty, providing a unique backdrop for a proposal that transcends time. It’s a great spot to take photos, but there are signs up in Japanese saying that “if there’s a que of people waiting to take photos, you shouldn’t take much time” - implying that you shouldn’t have a photoshoot here during a busy day. There are times that even around 8AM, we’ve noticed ques started to form of people waiting to take photos. So in order to have a comfortable and relaxed photoshoot in this location, we recommend shooting at sunrise, between Monday - Friday. Unless you’re happy to hike, it’s not possible to get here without a car, so we can pick you up and drive you, or we would recommend renting a car yourself.

Chureito Pagoda

As the sun dips below the horizon, the Chureito Pagoda stands as a symbol of timeless love against the stunning silhouette of Mount Fuji. The pagoda's elevated position not only provides a panoramic view but also adds a sense of grandeur to engagement photos. The blossoming cherry trees in spring and the warm hues of autumn foliage create a captivating atmosphere for a romantic declaration.

Lake Kawaguchiko, with its stunning vistas and the iconic presence of Mount Fuji, offers couples an idyllic setting for their engagement and surprise proposal photoshoots. From the elevated elegance of the Chureito Pagoda to the intimate shores and blooming landscapes of Oishi Park. Nagasaki Park and Tenku no Torii, with their serene beauty and cultural allure, provide couples with diverse options to create moments that will be cherished for a lifetime.
