Kyoto, with its ancient temples and picturesque landscapes, is a dream destination for many. Being a photographer who has visited this beautiful city often, I've witnessed numerous heartwarming moments, but few as special as the surprise proposal I recently captured at the renowned Daigo-ji temple.
Brandon reached out on Instagram. Given the plethora of stunning locations in Kyoto, we were spoilt for choice. But after a few discussions and research, our hearts settled on the Daigo-ji temple. And boy, did it not disappoint!
Brandon & Thalia, a charming couple from the US, were a delight to work with. Their chemistry was palpable, making my job as their chosen photographer in Kyoto even more rewarding. The challenge, however, was the unpredictable lighting. Throughout our session, the lighting kept shifting, thanks to the playful sun and clouds. Yet, armed with experience and a keen eye, I was able to harness each change to our advantage, ensuring every photo resonated with the ambiance of that magical moment.
Daigo-ji, with its history stretching back over a thousand years, proved to be an excellent choice for this monumental event in Brandon and Thalia's journey together. The towering pagoda, tranquil pond, and the vibrant hues of early autumn foliage created a mesmerizing canvas. It was my first time visiting this temple, and I can say without hesitation that it stands out as one of the most beautiful locations I've photographed in Japan.
As Brandon got down on one knee under a canopy of maple leaves, Thalia's gasp of surprise and ensuing joy was a sight to behold. That single moment encapsulated the essence of proposal photography: capturing raw, unscripted emotion against a breathtaking backdrop.
