Sunset Proposal Photoshoot at Lake Kawaguchiko | Mount Fuji Photography
For my last photoshoot of 2023, I had the honour of capturing a truly magical surprise proposal and engagement session at Lake Kawaguchiko, with ofcourse Mount Fuji as the backdrop. The setting sun painted the sky in some beautiful colours. We began the photoshoot at Oishi Park, where the proposal actually happened, and then we ventured to Tenku no Torii, adding an extra special touch. Lake Kawaguchiko, nestled at the foot of Mount Fuji, is renowned for its scenic beauty, especially during sunset. The iconic silhouette of Mount Fuji creates a surreal setting, perfect for engagement photos and surprise proposals. Here are some of my tips if you’re looking to have your photoshoot in one the most stunning locations in Japan.
1. Timing is Key for Sunset Shoots
The best sunsets at Lake Kawaguchiko, particularly with a clear view of Mount Fuji, are during the winter months. The air is crisp and the sky often clear, offering an unobstructed view of the mountain. Plan your photoshoot around sunset to capture the lake and Mount Fuji bathed in the warm, golden light of the setting sun.
2. Starting at Oishi Park
Oishi Park is a fantastic starting point for your photoshoot. With its wide array of seasonal flowers and panoramic views of Mount Fuji, it provides a vibrant and colourful backdrop. For a proposal, this setting adds a touch of romance and natural beauty that is hard to match.
3. Capturing the Moment at Tenku no Torii
Moving on to Tenku no Torii, the gateway to the heavens, offers a mystical and serene environment. The torii gate, set against the backdrop of Mount Fuji and the lake, creates a powerful and symbolic setting for engagement photos, especially as the sky transitions through its sunset palette.
4. Planning for the Weather
Winter weather can be unpredictable, so come prepared. Warm clothing that can be easily added or removed will ensure comfort throughout the photoshoot. Embrace the weather, whatever it may be, as it can add a unique and memorable element to your photos.
