There’s a universal language spoken in love, and nowhere is it more evident than in the bond of two people from diverse cultures. As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of documenting countless unions. Yet, Savaanah and Akaash's fusion wedding at Shearsby Bath, situated a stone's throw away from Leicester, remains etched in my heart for its vibrant blend of traditions.
Savaanah, a bride of Chinese descent, and Akaash, a groom with Indian roots, decided to tie the knot in an international celebration that was as much about uniting two families as it was about embracing two cultures. Being a wedding photographer who loves to encapsulate different cultures, I knew this would be a visually stunning.
The day kickstarted with a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony. Akaash, clad in his traditional Indian attiree. The rituals, filled with deep symbolism, were a vivid portrayal of Hindu customs, and a delight to capture. The light hues of the morning sun, mingled with the vibrant colours of the ceremony, made for some stunning shots.
From the vibrant ritual of the Hindu ceremony, we moved to the classic English registry. It’s always a challenge for a UK wedding photographer to capture the solemnity and elegance of this quintessential British custom. The intimate setting, with close friends and family, provided a stark yet beautiful contrast to the grandeur of the Hindu ceremony.
Post the registry, it was time to immerse ourselves in the ancient Chinese tradition of the tea ceremony. Savaanah looked beautiful in her red attire - a colour that symbolises luck, happiness, and love in Chinese culture. The ritual, which honours the elders, was an intimate affair. Each pour, each sip, was a testament to the importance of family in Chinese traditions. It's moments like these that I live for – moments that highlight the beauty of traditions from across the world.
The evening saw a grand reception. Friends and family, some local, others who had made the journey from far, came together in a celebration that was as international as the couple’s love story. My destination wedding photography skills truly came into play here. From capturing laughter to tears, from dance moves to candid moments, it was a night to remember.
In a world that often focuses on differences, Savaanah and Akaash’s wedding was a beautiful reminder of how love transcends borders.
